The NCCF Women & Girls Fund, in collaboration with Gilbert School, will host their fifth annual STEAM event, Coding for a Cause, utilizing technology for social good, for 6th – 8th grade girls on April 22, 2023 at The Gilbert School Library Media Center in Winsted, CT.

Chromebooks will be used to teach the participants about Scratch Coding. Scratch coding is a platform that uses block coding to create animations. Participants will then create posters to describe (advertise) their assigned non-profit organization. Using Makey Makey circuit boards, the posters will be used to provide interactive displays. The groups will code actions, sounds, and statements that will appear on the laptop display when the poster is touched.

This program allows participants to gain a basic understanding of computer language which includes instructional language, an ability to collaborate with both a nonprofit organization and other girls of various ages, and the knowledge of STEAM within a real- world environment.
